Pottery Painting This Half Term in Manchester: A Creative Day Out in Sale

Half term is nearly here! Schools across Sale and Trafford break up from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, and if you're looking for something fun, creative and rain-proof to do with the kids, pottery painting at Minikin Art Café is the perfect half-term activity.

Why pottery painting is perfect for half term

It's indoors, so a rainy October day won't spoil your plans. It works for every age, from toddlers making their first handprint plate to teens designing their own mugs. And unlike most days out, everyone goes home with something they've made, a keepsake you'll actually want to keep.

It's also a lovely way to slow down. No screens, no rushing: just a table, a paintbrush and a bit of creativity. Grown-ups often enjoy it just as much as the children!

How it works

  1. Choose your pottery: mugs, plates, animals, money boxes and more, with prices from £16.

  2. Paint it however you like. Our team is on hand with tips, practice tiles and ideas if you're stuck.

  3. We do the rest. We glaze and kiln-fire your piece, and it's ready to collect in about two weeks.

The price includes your painting session, glazing and firing. No experience is needed, and our paints are water-based and lead- and toxin-free, so they're safe from birth and wash off clothes and hands with water.

Halloween at Minikin

Half term ends with Halloween on Friday 31 October, so why not paint something spooky? We have pumkins to ghost houses, lanterns, zombies… all things spooky!

Half-term opening hours

Tuesday- Saturday 10-5

Sunday 11-4

Top tips for your half-term visit

  • Book ahead. Half term is our busiest week, and tables go quickly. If you're coming as a group of four or more, mention it in your booking so we can keep a large table free.

  • Plan your design. Older children love sketching their idea at home first.

  • Bring your phone for photos. Painting faces are the best faces!

  • Make it a gift. Hand-painted mugs and plates make brilliant Christmas presents for grandparents, and half term is the perfect time to get them made before the festive rush.

Where to find us

Minikin Art Café is at 132a Northenden Road, Sale, M33 3HE, just 10 minutes from Manchester city centre and the Trafford Centre. We're easy to reach from Altrincham, Stretford, Urmston, Chorlton and across Trafford. We serve hot and cold drinks, cakes and cookies while you paint.

We've been helping families across Greater Manchester get creative since 2010, and we'd love to see you this half term.
